Eco-Friendly Halloween Crafts: Creative Recycling for Kids

Halloween is a great opportunity to teach kids about recycling by turning everyday objects into spooky decorations. Here are two simple creative workshops using recycled materials:

Ghosts from Old Fabrics or Napkins

Materials:

  • Old white napkins or rags
  • Cotton thread
  • Black marker or pieces of black felt

Instructions:

  1. Cut out squares of white fabric and place a ball of paper or fabric in the center to create the head.
  2. Tie a thread under the head to secure it.
  3. Draw eyes and mouth with a black marker or glue pieces of black felt.

You can hang the ghosts with a string, creating a decorative chain for doors or windows!

Pumpkins with Newspaper

Materials:

  • Old newspapers or wrapping paper
  • Natural glue (you can make it with flour and water)
  • Orange and green paint (water based)
  • Black marker

Instructions:

  1. Crumple the newspaper sheets into a ball and secure it with tape.
  2. Cover the sphere with small pieces of paper glued one on top of the other (papier-mâché technique). Let dry.
  3. Paint the sphere orange and add details such as the stem and leaves with green paint.
  4. Using a black marker, draw eyes, nose and mouth to give the pumpkin a scary face!
These pumpkins are perfect as reusable Halloween decorations or as candy containers.

These simple crafts not only give new life to materials that would normally be thrown away, but also offer an opportunity to educate children on the importance of reusing and respecting the environment, even during the holidays. Halloween can be just as fun and scary, without negatively impacting the environment. 🎃
